Pre-registration for WCNA opens today

Monday, September 25, 10 am

We know everyone is excited about WCNA 37, and we are happy to announce that the registration and hotel accommodations website will go live on Monday, 25 September 2017 at 10:00 am PDT! Links will be posted at

There are many advantages to pre-registering, and one incentive is that all members who pre-register by 31 July 2018 (without cancellation) will be entered in a drawing for two (2) full convention packages, including registration and all WCNA special event tickets! (Does not include pre-reg merchandise.)

While we realize many people are accustomed to booking hotel rooms on their own, it really helps WCNA when you book rooms in our room block. As an encouragement to pre-register and book rooms in our room block, if you do so by 31 July 2018 (without cancellation), you will be automatically entered into a drawing for a free, three-night stay at one of the WCNA hotels. We will randomly select two pre-registrants and cover their room and tax charges for the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights of WCNA.

We are excited about having Mike Zito & Anders Osborne for the Thursday afternoon Blues Luncheon. They are a powerful blues force that will surely move your soles and your souls. We’ll provide more details about Zito and Osborne on the Convention Events pages; in the meantime, you can check out one of their videos at

Join us for the Friday morning Jazz Brunch with Keiko Matsui and Euge Groove. Matsui is an internationally acclaimed pianist and composer who will pair up with veteran smooth jazz saxophonist Euge Groove. Check out these remarkable artists at and and on our Convention Events pages.

Alonzo Bodden will headline the Saturday night Comedy Show, and he’ll be bringing along a few of his hilarious friends, too. Bodden is well known for his cynically good-natured social and political humor and as the winner of Last Comic Standing. Check him out at

We’ve also confirmed artists for two coffeehouse events: Nakia and the Blues Grifters and Orchestra Fuego.

We’re very close to finalizing additional performers for the comedy show and concert, so we’ll provide updated information as it becomes available—but you need not wait to register. Special event seating assignments are based on your pre-registration date, not by the date you purchase the tickets. The key to getting the best seats is to register early.

Interested in being considered as a WCNA main speaker or workshop speaker or want to participate in the WCNA 37 speaker evaluation process? We’ll make that information available on the website 10 October 2017.

We’ll have more information in the spring of 2018 on other ways you can help before and at the Convention.

Need help or information about a visa to enter the US? Please contact for more information.

See you in Orlando!

Deep Cove Quarry Rock Hike

Deep Cove Map Location
If driving to Deep Cove, please allow a little extra time to find parking.
Estimated time: 30 minutes normal traffic, or 45 minutes in heavy/weekend traffic.

Traveling by Bus
There are a few buses that go to Deep Cove. If you are coming from
downtown, West Vancouver, Burnaby etc, make your way to Phibbs Exchange,
then take either the 211 or 212 (the 212 is a more direct route).
Deep Cove is the very last stop on both routes.
Get off the bus and walk toward the water to the end of Gallant Ave to Banbury St.

Traveling by Car via Hwy 1 Vancouver/Second Narrows Bridge to Deep Cove
Find your way to Hwy 1 and cross the Second Narrows Bridge
Take exit 23B toward Dollarton Hwy; follow Dollarton Hwy for 7 km.
Continue on to Deep Cove Rd (will become Gallant Ave.)
Park your car and walk down toward the water to the end of Gallant Ave to Banbury St.

Alternatively you could travel further north on Hwy 1 and take the 22B marked for
Mount Seymour Parkway. Turn right onto Mount Seymour Parkway and follow this road
for about 5km until your reach Deep Cove Road. Turn left on Deep Cove Road, and
you will eventually curve right into Deep Cove.

At the 4-way stop, turn left onto Panorama Drive and immediately on your right is a
parking lot for Panorama Park. Parking here is free, but very limited (especially
on a sunny summer day). You may find additional street parking on Rockcliff Road,
or by the Cove Cliff Elementary School. It is just a short walk to the trailhead
from there, but don’t forget to meet up at Banbury and Gallant first, @ 12:15 🙂

Traveling by Car via Hwy 1 Whistler/West Vancouver to Deep Cove
Take Exit 22 (Lynn Creek/Capilano University/Mount Seymour Parkway).
Turn Left on to Fern St; the road will fall to the right and become Mt. Seymour Parkway
Turn Left on to Deep Cove Road (it will become Gallant Ave).
Park your car and walk down toward the water to the end of Gallant Ave to Banbury St.

Quarry Rock Dogs
Please leash your dogs for a safe top of the rock experience.Quarry Rock Hiking Trail
The terrain is typical of North Shore hikes: densely wooded areas of Douglas Fir and Hemlock trees, and small mountain creeks. The first section of the trail climbs about twenty minutes up a set of stairs, and then over a maze of tree roots. The trail begins to level after that.

Trout Lake BBQ Hosted by the Activities Committee

Come join us for a BBQ in John Hendry Park, home of beautiful Trout Lake.
The main entrance to the park is located at 3300 Victoria Drive and E 15th Avenue.
There’s a large, free parking lot at that entrance. Bring food, friends, and family!
There is an off leash dog walking area on the north side of the lake, which is lovely
to walk around even if you do not have a dog 🙂 A walk around Trout Lake is only
1.2 km, will take approximately 15-25 minutes to complete, and is wheelchair
accessible. Swimming in the lake is also permissible at the south end.

The park is just a short walk from the Broadway Station SkyTrain at E Broadway and Commercial Drive
